UPDATE OF FOREST FIRE (BUSH FIRE) AT BAIE STE ANNE PRASLIN
The Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA) wish to announced the successful containment and completion of response operations for the recent forest fire incident On Praslin (Baie ste Anne).
The fire, which began on the 6th May 2026, has now been fully extinguished – thanks to the coordinated efforts of firefighters, volunteers, and key partner /MDA’S.
As per information received the fire has affected approximately 20 hectares of forest land in the area of Kanper, Fond Lalarez, fond Azor, fond Ferdinand and Glacis Noire. Over a number of 35 fire service personnel, supported by personnel from the military, department of environment and other volunteers, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and complete extinguishment.
Evacuation measures were also implemented to protect residents, near the vicinity of the incident and three casualties or injuries was reported, however their condition is stable.
To date all emergency response coordination and National emergency operating centre has stand down as the situation is completely mitigated and all the evacuees has return to their respective residence.
An investigation regarding the incident is ongoing and relevant information will be given as may be necessary by relevant authorities once the investigation has been concluded.
SFRSA will strengthen fire prevention strategies, including public awareness campaigns and improved monitoring systems.
