The cabinet has decided to declare February 1 a national holiday. This day is known as “Abolition of Slavery Day.”

Patrick HERMINIE is the new (6th) president of the Seychelles.

The presidential elections (and National Assembly elections) in the Seychelles from 25 to 27 September did not produce a clear result. There will be a second round: no one achieved the required 50% of the votes, so there will be a new election between the two candidates with the most votes: Mr Herminie and Mr Ramkalawan.
